Hey, I'm Shelby

Welcome to Outlive OCD, a mental health blog and peer run OCD support group. I started Outlive OCD as a safe space where people with OCD can connect through shared experiences, helpful tools, and community. I know firsthand how debilitating and painful OCD can be. I hope to be a safe space for you to be open and share in your hardships, triumphs and experiences with OCD. To sign up for our FREE Outlive OCD peer support group or Shelby's individual peer-support services, visit the "Support" page for more information and registration. We can't wait to meet you!

My Story

I have lived with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder my whole life but wasn't officially diagnosed until age 10. My OCD as a child manifested as verbal and external rituals, perfectionism, extreme emetophobia, and skin picking. After attending multiple different OCD groups and years of individual therapy through my childhood and into my teen years, I felt that I had finally reached a state of remission. In 2020, my OCD reemerged suddenly, with new themes I didn't know how to handle. I developed intrusive thoughts and "Pure O" themes like religious, relationship, real-event, and harm OCD. After going back to therapy and speaking with an OCD therapist who had OCD themselves, I learned the importance of communicating with someone who has walked the same path as you. It motivated me to pursue a career in working with people with OCD. I received my Bachelors in Psychology from California State University, Sacramento in 2022, and I am certified by the State of California as a Peer Support Specialist. I hope to continue my education so I can continue to help others who have gone through what I have.
